Senior Analyst, Research & AI Innovation

Washington, DC

Gravity Research is seeking a Senior Analyst, Research & AI Innovation to join our team. This is a hybrid role: you will contribute directly to client-facing research projects as an analyst, while also helping us design and apply AI/automation solutions that make our work faster, smarter, and more impactful.

As an analyst on our research team, you’ll produce high-quality insights for corporate, nonprofit, and association clients on issues at the intersection of business, policy, and society. At the same time, you’ll experiment with emerging AI tools—building custom GPTs, streamlining data flows, and automating research workflows—to enhance the quality and efficiency of our deliverables.

This role is ideal for an early-career research professional who is curious, analytical, and excited to combine their research skills with technical experimentation.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct client-facing research on societal, reputational, and policy issues, producing written deliverables and insights.

  • Build and customize generative AI applications (e.g., custom GPTs) to support research and client deliverables.

  • Design and test automations that connect data sources, streamline workflows, and improve efficiency across projects.

  • Apply generative AI and NLP techniques to summarize, synthesize, and analyze media, policy, and stakeholder content.

  • Prototype and implement AI-driven improvements to research processes in collaboration with colleagues.

  • Maintain and share knowledge of emerging AI/automation tools and recommend adoption where relevant.

  • Stay up-to-date on major developments in AI and bring forward ideas for experimentation.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is a researcher first, with the technical curiosity and ability to build and experiment with AI/automation tools. You don’t need to be a software engineer. You do need to be resourceful, adaptable, and excited to apply AI in creative, practical ways in a research setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1–3 years of professional experience in research, consulting, public affairs, or related environments (internships and academic experience considered)

  • Hands-on experience with generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), interest or exposure to building custom workflows for research outputs (e.g., custom GPTs, APIs, Python scripts, or open-source automation tools)

  • Experience using automation or data analysis in a research setting.

  • Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize large volumes of content into clear insights.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive about testing and implementing new tools.

  • Earned Bachelor's degree required

  • Prodigious work ethic and spirit of generosity.

Preferred:

  • Exposure to Python or other coding languages.

  • Exposure to text analysis, natural language processing (NLP), or data visualization tools

  • Experience with designing or improving research workflows with technology (even in academic or internship settings)

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: The salary range for this role is $70,000-$75,000

Location: This job is based in Washington, DC. Gravity Research operates on a hybrid schedule, with employees required to be in the office every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

About Us

Across Gravity Research, generally, the firm looks for three “pillar gifts” in you, and everyone else.  In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions –

  • Force of Ideas: At the center of Gravity Research’s work are the ideas within our work. We believe that ideas—the good and not—have consequences. Our ultimate objective is to bring rigor, insight, and intellectual honesty to the goal of separating the bad from the good, and giving voice, argument, and flight to maintaining the latter.

  • Spirit of Generosity:  Gravity Research seeks in its ranks a spirit of generosity: a natural disposition in each colleague toward service and selfless conduct. Our writing should be cut from the same cloth—critical on the merits, but informed by charity and forbearance in measuring motive and personal character.

  • Radical Responsibility: We give our people a lot of responsibility early on, and our top performers embrace it. We believe in holding ourselves and our colleagues accountable, taking ownership over big things, striving for excellence, and celebrating success.
